The Bridges also has three emergency shelter units for families experiencing homelessness.  Approximately one-third of the families we shelter are refugees from many different countries including Colombia, Mexico, Nigeria, Israel, Rwanda, Costa Rica and Ghana.  Refugees face unique issues related to culture, language, trauma, and employment.   We recently commissioned a needs assessment entitled; 'Provision of Services to Newcomers in Cambridge and North Dumfries.'  The full report can be downloaded here.

Our Family Caseworker works intimately with families to ensure that children are enrolled in school, and to find appropriate, affordable housing where they can make a smooth transition back into our community.
